The last couple of our little whiles

It's been a busy couple of weeks as our first married summer winds down to a close. We've done a lot of traveling, helped everyone that we know move (including ourselves), worked long days and late nights, and basically had a lot of fun doing all of it. Seeing the summer die is a little sad but it's been long enough that we feel ready some regular adventures.

Maren started teaching her first class and just finished her second week. Plenty of preparation went into getting the classroom ready, buying and preparing materials, going to meetings with administration, and basically getting our feet back under ourselves after the move. She's teaching at American Leadership Academy in Spanish Fork and has a class of 28 third graders. Their mostly sweet but occasionally rowdy. The excitement of a new school year seems to play with their attention spans. Hopefully things will calm down a little once everyone gets into a routine. As for now, it's a lot of long nights planning lessons, grading assignments, and preparing materials. There have been a few tears but mostly smiles mixed with a good dose of exhaustion along the way. We're excited for this new adventure.

Michael is getting ready to start his final semester at BYU in the Media Arts program. He's taking a lot of interesting classes like Media Literacy for Children and an editing class for BYU's States of America program. He's definitely ready to be done but also a little unsure about where life will lead after graduation. We've been talking about grad school and have discussed a few good options. The main contenders for now are law school, an MBA, or a Masters of Communications. BYU has been a lot of fun and has offered great programs but we want to try branching out. We've even discussed going international or at least to a different part of the country like the west coast or even the south. There hasn't been a distinct pull in any particular direction as of yet but things will becoming clearer the closer we get to them.

Milo seems to be really enjoying our new apartment. He likes having a little more room to run around and there are more places to jump out from behind. He had a problem with throwing up a lot when we first moved in. We think it's because he was eating too fast. Most of the time it seems like he doesn't even chew his food. We've started feeding him smaller portions and put some river stones in his bowl so it takes him a little longer to eat around them. It's seemed to help and he's as happy as ever. He's still a bit of a 'fraidy cat and doesn't do well with crowds, babies, dogs, or the entirety of the outside world. We hope he grows out of it but that's just the way of the cat sometimes.
